So how do you top a year where you become a mom and star in an oscar-winning film? Well, you set your sights on an Icon!
In what will no doubt be a pivotal role for her career, ANTM alum Yaya Dacosta Alafia is set to play Whitney Houston in an upcoming biopic to air on the Lifetime Channel.
The ever-accomplished Angela Bassett will also be making her directorial debut for the biopic, which lends the talents of writer Shem Bitterman and producer Larry Sanitsky. Both worked on “Betty and Coretta”, in which Basset starred last year. In a statement noting her commitment to the story Bassett stated, “I have such regard for both Whitney’s and Bobby’s amazing talents and accomplishments; and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story. Their humanity and bond fascinates us all. I’m beyond excited to have this opportunity to go behind the camera and into their world.”
The biopic is to be centered around Whitney’s relationship with singer Bobby Brown and her rise to world fame. Congratulations to Yaya on what is becoming an amazing year!
