In what has turned out to be a real-life version of “A Day Without a Mexican“, Donald Trump has found himself on the receiving end of his famous “You’re Fired!”
After a week which saw him commenting on border control with gems such as “They are bringing drugs, and bringing crime, and their rapists.”, then doubling down once confronted, “The Donald” has since had a front-row seat to the crumbling of his cushy media empire.
For the past week Trump has steadfastly refused to budge as he “lost” his Miss Universe contract with Univision (which he responded to with the pettiest of panache), and saw both hosts, performers and judges for the Miss Universe Pageant resign with just weeks to go before the telecast. But apparently the final straw floated down to NBC after his clarifying statements on CNN’s State of the Union Sunday, as the network has released a statement cutting all ties:
“At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values. Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump. To that end, the annual Miss USA and Miss Universe Pageants, which are part of a joint venture between NBC and Trump, will no longer air on NBC. In addition, as Mr. Trump has already indicated, he will not be participating in The Apprentice on NBC. Celebrity Apprentice is licensed from Mark Burnett‘s United Artists Media Group and that relationship will continue.”
Trump famously has been very vocal on social media regarding his stance on immigration and his recent comments. We will definitely be watching to see what the “presidential hopeful” has to say now that he has discovered when it comes to Latinos in America-you mess with one, you mess with the whole family.
UPDATE: Donald Trump has responded NBC’s statement with one of his own, again using social media:
